Pew Research finds sixty percent of Americans respond negatively to “socialism”. Political candidates learn to control the language of political discourse to win elections. To win re-election President Barack Obama must avoid that label. However, as Shakespeare observed, a rose by any other name is still a rose.
Progressives are entitled to their opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts. While President Obama would accept the term “Progressive”, according to Thesaurus synonyms, progressives are socialists. Webster’s dictionary defines as socialist as someone who believes in the government distribution of goods. President Obama believes in taxing the rich and government redistribution. Obama is a student of Saul Alinsky, who taught revolutionaries not to flaunt their radicalism, but cut their hair, put on suits and infiltrate the system from within. That is exactly what President Obama has done. He has infiltrated the system, and his administration has given ear to radical socialists such as Valerie Jarrett, Van Jones, Anita Dunn and Jeff Jones.
President Obama appears to model his administration after the welfare states of European socialists. After Marx’s death in 1883, Europe’s Marxists rejected the Bolsheviks’ call for socialist revolution and instead worked within the political system for Marxist goals. European Marxist formed socialist parties from the trade-union movement. Marxism provided the intellectual foundations of the modern European welfare state.
Like European socialists, Obama supports universal health care and wealth shared fairly, as determined by the state. He favors progressive taxes on the rich, redistribution of wealth, extended unemployment benefits, food stamps, and high regulation of the private sector. He believes in central planning by the federal reserve, the taxation of carbon fuels and the subsidizing of green energy. He sees no problem in destroying private property rights by designating private land as wetlands or view corridors. If a politician walks like a duck, quacks like duck and associates with ducks, he probably is a duck. As Shakespeare might say, methinks President Obama protests too much he is not a socialists to be credible.
